JAMES GARFIELD BRITTON
Detective Britton was shot and killed on Tuesday, July 22, 1919, when he and three other officers went to arrest a group of outlaws at 0530 hours. When the officers entered the suspects opened fired, fatally wounding Detective Britton. Detective Britton was able to return fire and killed one of the suspects and wounded a second. The third suspect was also shot and wounded by another officer.
