Captain Davidchik was shot Wednesday, December 18, 1968, while attempting to talk a man out of committing suicide. The suspect shot Captain Davidchik in the leg causing him to develop blood clots in both lungs. Captain Davidchik succumbed to his injuries Thursday, December 26, 1968.

Captain Davidchik was 53 years old.
