Jailer Davis was shot and killed on September 9, 1978, by a man who opened fire on the county jail's lobby using a high powered rifle. Jailer Davis was sitting in the lobby when he was shot and killed instantly. The suspect was captured later in the day.

Jailer Davis had served with the agency for 10 years.
