SPECIAL AGENT
THOMAS P. GRIFFIN

Photograph Not Available

On November 15, 1923, Special Agent Griffin and another detective were checking an area of railroad tracks in the Rock Island rail yard near SW 14th Street and Vine in Des Moines, Iowa, where frequent thefts occurred as trains staged outside of the switching yards.  Special Agent Griffin observed two men stealing items from a boxcar and ordered them to halt.  The men opened fire on him with a .32 caliber handgun, killing him.  Both thieves were arrested and subsequently convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
