GEORGE WESLEY SCHANE
Patrolman George Schane was accidentally shot on Saturday, May 2, 1942, when he was reaching into the rear of his vehicle and his weapon accidentally discharged. The bullet passed through his body and then richocheted into the ground in front of the municipal court building. Patrolman Schane succumbed to his injuries May 4, 1942.
Patrolman Schane had been with the Des Moines Police Department for one month. He was survived by his wife, daughter, and parents. Patrolman Schane was 28 years old.
