Detective Wilson was shot Sunday, July 28, 1907, while searching for a suspect who had just shot and wounded another police officer. Detective Wilson succumbed to his injuries on Monday, July 29, 1907.

Detective Wilson served with the Council Bluffs Police Department for 10 years and was 50 years old. He was survived by his wife and four children.
