Each year communities across the State of Iowa lose valued members to fires in homes, garages and vehicles. As the State Fire Marshal and Firefighters in cities and towns from the Mississippi River to the Missouri River attempt to curb the number of lives lost, we offer this glimpse at the tragedy that is fire related fatalities in Iowa. While reviewing the list of deceased and the fires that claimed their lives, please take note that many of the homes in which these individuals died, did not have properly working smoke detectors.
