       42nd Basic Training Academy
**SPECIAL CERTIFIED ACADEMY**
Application Process

 

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is currently accepting applications from ILEA Certified Officers for the DPS 42nd Basic Training Academy.  Applicants possessing a current Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) certification are eligible to apply for a shortened academy curriculum involving 10 weeks of training. Orientation Day for the Academy is tentatively set for January 25, 2019.  The anticipated first day of training is January 28, 2019. 

** Please note:  DPS does not intend to have another special certified academy in the near future.  All non-DPS certified officers desiring a position with the Department are strongly encouraged to apply now.

The Municipal Fire & Police Retirement System of Iowa (Iowa Code Chapter 411) does have an agreement with the Peace Officer Retirement System (POR) to transfer service.  Certain requirements do apply.
