Missing Person Information Clearinghouse
Filing a Missing Person Report in the State of Iowa
"Missing
person" means a person as defined in 694.1 Code of Iowa whose temporary or
permanent residence is in Iowa, or is believed to be in Iowa, whose location has not been
determined, who has been reported as missing to a law enforcement agency and meets one of
the following characteristics:

Is physically or
mentally disabled. |

Is missing under
circumstances indicating that the missing person's safety may be in danger. |

Is missing under
circumstances indicating that the disappearance was not voluntary. |
 |
Is an unemancipated
minor. |

For purposes of
this chapter an "unemancipated minor" means a minor who has not married and who
resides with a parent or other legal guardian. |

Important Information Regarding Unemancipated Juveniles

| Chapter 694.5 Code of Iowa and the National Child Search
Assistance Act of 1990 set requirements for law enforcement agencies in cases involving
unemancipated minors. A law enforcement agency is required to immediately transmit the
information for inclusion in the national crime information center computer and they shall
not prevent an immediate active investigation on the basis of an agency rule which
specifies an automatic time limitation for a missing person investigation. |
