Accessibility of Buildings and Facilities
Available to the Public
| Iowa
law provides for the accessibility to persons with disabilities
of buildings and facilities available to the public. Iowa
Code Chapter 104B states the intent of these provisions as
follows: "that standards and specifications are followed
in the construction of public and private buildings and facilities
which are intended for use by the general public to ensure
that these buildings and facilities are accessible to and
functional for persons with disabilities."
Responsibility for establishing these accessibility
standards is assigned to the Building Code Commissioner and
they appear in the State Building Code as 661--Chapter 302
of the Iowa Administrative Code.
